The Lady Knights softball team was triumphant over Cane Bay 9-8 on Monday night, moving to 3-0 in region 7-AAAAA play.
Cane Bay jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but Stratford would cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning. Jayden Sizemore would score on an Ella Bruorton ground-out getting the Knights on the board.
A single by Ilianexis Cotto gave the Knights the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the second, scoring Kinsley Bass.
Cane Bay would tie the game at three in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the third, Stratford broke up the tie when Julianne Jashienski tripled, scoring Lianne Cotto and Bruorton. Jashienski would later score on a passed ball making it 6-3.
Cane Bay would battle back, tying the game at six in the top of the sixth.
Stratford captured the lead, 9-6, in the bottom of the sixth and would hold on in the seventh to win 9-8.
Kyliegh Malmede got the start for Stratford in the circle. The pitcher gave up two hits and five runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Katie Bond appeared in relief for the Knights.
Cotto, Bruorton, and Jashienski each drove in two runs for Stratford. Jashienski led the Knights with two hits in three at bats.
Stratford will play again at home on Thursday against Berkeley. The game looks to have large region implications at this point in the season.
